If you or a family member live in Somalia and have been diagnosed with heart valve disease or an atrial septal defect, you do not need to travel to India simply to find out where to begin.
At Heart Valve Experts (HVE), adult patients, families and referring doctors in Somalia can send recent medical records for specialist review before planning a journey to Mumbai. Parents or legal guardians may also submit records for a child with a diagnosed congenital heart condition, provided the case is accepted through our verified paediatric cardiology pathway.
The initial review may help clarify what the available reports show, whether additional information is needed and whether assessment in India would be a reasonable next step.
Depending on the diagnosis, possible pathways may include monitoring, medicines, heart surgery, TAVI/TAVR, TEER or catheter-based ASD device closure.
A remote review can provide direction, but it cannot guarantee that a particular procedure will be suitable. Final eligibility may require an examination, updated imaging and other investigations in Mumbai.
International Patients
Start with the reports you already have and the questions you want answered. For example, you may want to understand why treatment has been recommended, whether other options are suitable or whether travelling is necessary.
If possible, ask your cardiologist in Bangladesh for a short clinical summary covering your diagnosis, symptoms, previous treatment and reason for referral. Include any proposed treatment and how urgently your doctor believes it is needed.

Ask the diagnostic centre or hospital in Bangladesh for a complete digital copy. Keep the original files; screenshots or photographs of a scan report do not replace the scan images themselves.
If your documents are in Bangla, ask HVE whether an English clinical summary or translation is needed before arranging one.
Share records with the patient’s permission and read the HVE Privacy Policy. If a family member or doctor is sending the information, explain their relationship to the patient and ask how consent should be recorded.
TAVI/TAVR and TEER, guided by your reports.
If your cardiologist in Bangladesh has recommended aortic valve replacement, share the latest echocardiogram and any existing CT images for review.
The discussion can help identify which further assessments are needed when considering surgery or TAVI/TAVR. Suitability cannot be confirmed from age or a written report alone.
If you have been advised to seek treatment for mitral regurgitation, include your latest echocardiogram, current medicines and any previous treatment recommendations.
These records help frame a discussion about monitoring, medicines, surgery or TEER. Further imaging may be required before deciding whether a catheter-based repair is appropriate.
Medical Visa
Before applying, check the current instructions from the High Commission of India in Dhaka. Use the application route specified for applicants in Bangladesh and review the requirements for both the patient and any accompanying person.
The High Commission’s visa document checklist dated 13 August 2026 includes an invitation-letter requirement for Medical/Ayush visa applications. Ask the receiving hospital which appointment or invitation documents it can provide after accepting your case. View the official visa document checklist.

A hospital appointment or invitation does not guarantee visa approval. Avoid making non-refundable travel arrangements until your visa and medical appointment are confirmed.

If your journey involves a connection or onward travel within India, allow for rest and discuss the demands of the journey with your doctor.
Carry printed and digital medical records, prescriptions and your treating doctor’s contact details. Ask in advance if you need language assistance, mobility support or help with accommodation, and confirm availability and charges.
International Patients
Before leaving Mumbai, obtain your discharge summary, investigation results, procedure report, prescriptions and written follow-up instructions.
Ask when you should next see your cardiologist in Bangladesh and which tests will be needed. Make sure the medicine list includes clear names, doses and instructions so you can discuss local availability before travelling home.
Arrange local follow-up and take the complete treatment record to that appointment. If remote HVE follow-up is available for your case, confirm how to book it and share subsequent reports.
Do not assume that records will be sent directly between doctors. Keep your own copies and share them with your treating team.
Ask for a written estimate once sufficient information is available. Check whether it includes consultations, imaging, the procedure, implants, medicines and hospital accommodation.
Plan separately for travel, a companion’s expenses and any additional stay. The final treatment cost may change after assessment or if further care is needed.
